The 10th National Dialogue on Climate Ambition

UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge

MTW pledges to support UAE government in reaching Net Zero targets by 2050

On behalf of GEMS Education, Jeremy Hallum, Principal of GEMS Metropole School – Al Waha pledged to support the UAE government in reaching Net Zero targets by 2050 through the implementation of a nationwide cross sectoral process that pursues climate neutrality to fulfill both National and International climate commitments.

Jeremy Hallum has signed the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge at the 10th National Dialogue on Climate Ambition (NDCA), held at Emirates Steel. The event brought together leaders from diverse sectors to discuss and shape the future of industry in the face of climate change.

Expressing deep concern over the adverse impacts of climate change on various aspects of life, the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge emphasises solidarity and partnerships in tackling this global challenge. It aligns with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, aiming to limit global warming to well below 2°C, preferably 1.5°C, compared to pre-industrial levels, and achieve climate neutrality by mid-century.

As signatories of the pledge, GEMS Metropole School – Al Waha and Principal Jeremy Hallum commit to taking concrete steps to combat climate change. They will measure and report greenhouse gas emissions transparently, develop plans to reduce their carbon footprint in line with national sectoral climate targets, and share these plans with the UAE government. The school will also integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation measures as core principles of its operations and engage stakeholders, including suppliers, partners, and consumers, to actively participate in climate action.

Furthermore, GEMS Metropole School – Al Waha adopts an inclusive approach, ensuring the involvement of youth, women, and vulnerable segments of society in developing its net-zero plans. This commitment demonstrates the school's determination to lead by example and contribute to a sustainable future.

Excited about this milestone, Principal Jeremy Hallum said: "Our participation in the 10th National Dialogue on Climate Ambition and the signing of the UAE Climate-Responsible Companies Pledge reflects our deep commitment to sustainability. As an educational institution, we have a responsibility to instill environmental consciousness in our students and work towards a greener future. We will continue to prioritise sustainable practices and innovation, playing our part in addressing the challenges posed by climate change."

GEMS Metropole School – Al Waha's commitment to supporting the UAE government in reaching net-zero targets is a testament to the school's dedication to creating a better world for future generations. With sustainability as its core value, the institution sets an example for others to follow in the pursuit of a greener and more sustainable future.
