Mental Health and Wellbeing
At GEMS Metropole School Al Waha, wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Our mission to "Lead, nurture, and succeed" is realised through a supportive and nurturing environment where both students and staff can thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
“The values of curiosity, confidence, creativity, respect, and kindness are embedded across the school community, contributing to a positive atmosphere where students feel empowered to grow and succeed.” - Optimus Wellbeing Award for Schools Report, October 2024
We are deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and sustainable community where wellbeing takes priority. Through initiatives such as mental health workshops, student leadership opportunities, and a robust pastoral care system, we aim to cultivate a culture that promotes mental, emotional, and social health.
Our school integrates wellbeing into every aspect of the learning experience. We offer:
- Leadership opportunities for students to build their confidence and teamwork skills.
- A Forest School programme, promoting physical and emotional wellbeing through nature.
- Well-designed facilities that support physical, mental, and emotional growth, such as our expansive playgrounds, sports halls, and the innovative Bio-Cube.
These spaces ensure that students are not only supported academically but are also given the tools to maintain their overall health and wellbeing.
From Years 3 to 6, we provide a diverse range of enrichment opportunities that encourage creativity and leadership. Students can engage in activities ranging from salsa dancing to **origami**, building cultural capital and self-confidence. Leadership programmes, in collaboration with parents, reinforce a strong connection between school and home.
These activities not only boost students' self-confidence but also equip them with essential social and emotional skills, enhancing their ability to face challenges with resilience.
Facilities and Programmes for Holistic Development
At GEMS Metropole School Al Waha, we believe in providing students with spaces that allow them to thrive academically and emotionally. Our **Forest School programme** for FS1 to Year 2 students fosters a deep connection with nature, promoting stress relief and resilience.
This learner-centred approach allows children to explore the natural environment, developing lifelong relationships with the outdoors.
Older students also benefit from programmes that nurture creativity and leadership. Through performing arts, sports, and our **entrepreneurship curriculum**, students have the opportunity to build confidence, express themselves, and develop essential life skills.
Preparing for the Future: The Futures School
As our school grows, the **Futures School** for Years 10 to 13 will become a key focus, preparing students for future success. Offering over **26 IGCSEs, 22 A-Levels, and BTEC qualifications**, we aim to provide world-class academic and vocational pathways.
By offering a broad range of qualifications and real-world experiences, GEMS Metropole School Al Waha is positioning itself as a leader in preparing students to succeed in higher education and the workforce.
A Focus on Staff Wellbeing
At MTW, we recognise that the wellbeing of our staff is equally important. With a dedicated budget and a Wellbeing Committee, we ensure that our staff are supported through recognition events, professional development, and regular wellbeing check-ins.
These initiatives reflect the school’s ethos of prioritising the emotional and mental wellbeing of its staff, creating a supportive community and encouraging a balanced work environment.
The People’s Place: A Hub for Wellbeing
At the heart of our wellbeing initiatives is the People’s Place, a safe and nurturing environment where students feel supported, understood, and valued. Here, students can express themselves openly, building emotional resilience and strong relationships with staff and peers.
The People’s Place is more than a physical space—it is a symbol of the school’s dedication to ensuring every student feels seen, heard, and supported.
GEMS Metropole Al Waha is proud to be at the forefront of embedding wellbeing into every facet of school life, ensuring that our students and staff flourish both inside and outside the classroom.
